Calling all physical media lovers! We’re publishing our first issue of the Babe’s Beat and we want YOU to contribute to it. We’re looking for all types of content and want to ensure the first issue really represents the variety and nuance of the Babe’s community, so please consider submitting a pitch! Submission Guidelines for Babe’s Beat Issue One
Theme:
A celebration of the Babe’s community 🎈🪩
What we’re looking for:
All submissions we choose to print will have an authentic voice, center women’s sports and/or all things Babe’s, and share a unique perspective on the topic. We’re specifically looking to publish:
Op Eds on women’s sports, Babe’s, community, queerness, and the intersection of all of those topics
Art that works in black and white and/or color print
New Yorker-style cartoons
Photography
Illustration
Poetry
Collage
Classifieds
Missed connections
Looking to connect with someone you played softball against last weekend but too shy to text them? Wishing you asked the cutie at the table next to you at Babe’s what their name was? Let us post the info and help you make the connection!

Who can submit?
Anyone! Don’t need to be a professional to submit, although we are looking to center women’s voices and queer voices
If my submission isn’t chosen for this edition can it be chosen for another edition?
It could be! We will be sure to share the submission form for the next issue with everyone who submits a pitch for Issue 1.
How many pitches can I submit?
There is no limit, but we will only print one piece per author to ensure equity of voice, so be discerning in what you submit!
Is there compensation?
This is a project we’re doing for fun and to capture the spirit of the Babe’s community. We are planning to give out the paper for free, and charge a small amount for commemorative color copies. Contributors will be invited to the publishing party and gifted a Babe’s swag bag, which includes two drink tickets and a color copy of the paper.
Does my submission need to be complete?
Submissions should simply be pitches (working title, 3-5 sentences, anything else relevant that will help us understand what the final piece will be). We won’t be able to accept/publish all of the submissions we get, so please don’t feel like you need to have your pitch in a finalized state until you’ve been notified we will be moving forward with your work!
Timeline and Process:
Submission form opens: May 4th
Pitches due: May 18th, 11:59PM
Selections made by May 22
Finalized submissions due: June 1
Publishing party: June 27th

Our mission is to create a physical representation of Babe’s and the community that forms Babe’s Sports Bar. Centering women’s sports and its connection to community, queerness, womanhood and beyond. Having a space for the creative voices that live and breathe women’s sports in Chicago and beyond.
