Happy Pride to women’s sports fans, who celebrate Pride year-round 💕
It’s our first Pride month, and we’ve been talking internally about what that means for us at Babe’s. As as women’s sports bar, it honestly doesn’t change much about how we operate! We’re excited to celebrate Pride by continuing to partner with other queer businesses (that’s a fun teaser for this month’s pop-ups), centering the history of Pride as a movement for equity by focusing on giving back rather than consumerism (don’t buy a rainbow shirt from Target, come tie dye your own upcycled shirt at Tool School on June 23), and celebrating and affirming queer and trans athletes (this month and every month).

SUMMERTIME CHI BEGINS WITH A BANG(ER)
👟🌳 We have multiple events this month that we want you to come to, starting this Sunday June 7 when we cheer on half marathoners with Out There Run Club from 7:45-1PM at the corner of Luis Munoz and Humboldt, we’ll have Baberade and good vibes and be making use of our pink megaphone 📣 and after our voices are hoarse we’ll head over to the Calaveras block party, our neighbors who are celebrating 10 years of business by raising $10,000 for Ballet Folklorio dancers - read more and donate here.
☀️🕶️ If you haven’t seen on the patio since our renovation, you’re in for a treat. Our friends at Tool School Cogave the space a huge facelift, and Janel Young, a local artist and Babe’s community member, is starting an installment this week that will justify renaming the outdoor space to the “Court Yard” 🏀🎨 We want you all to experience it and celebrate it with us and the people who helped make it beautiful on Saturday, June 20th! We’ll have a pop-up from Cap’s Ice Cream, free hot dogs for the Sky away game, and other treats to celebrate the beginning of summer!
🩸🚑 Did you know that, until 2023, the FDA considered sexual orientation when determining if a donor was eligible to give blood?? We’re celebrating Pride month on Saturday, June 27th with a mobile blood drive at the bar, with treats for donors sponsored by Misguided Spirits, and cinnamon rolls (for donors AND anyone who needs a sweet treat) from Brie’s Cuisine! And stick around in the afternoon for an AUSL Bandits watch party, with special swag from Athletes Unlimited. Are you feeling lightheaded from the idea of blood donation or from trying to keep track of all the fun events? Both?

🏀🌭 We love that you all love the free hot dogs during Sky away games! In fact, those hot dogs are so loved that we’ve had to enact a “only one hot dog per person in the first half” rule to make sure there’s enough to go around! And we’ll continue to be dishing out free hot dogs for every Sky away game through the month, which means at least four more hot dogs in your near future.
🏉🌪️ We had such a fun crowd out for the WER Tempest away game on Sunday, which makes it even more fun to announce that we’ll be the official watch party location for the Tempest’s games on June 7th and June 21st. Expect drink specials, Tempest players who aren’t traveling with the team, and most importantly, other people who understand rugby to watch with (though understanding it is NOT a requirement, there are a lot of rules).
🥎⚽️🎾 We’ll be watching the CollegeSoftball World Series this week with the audio on, and will start showing the AUSL pro softball games when the season starts on June 9th. We’re excited for the tennis bookends of the month with the French Open and Wimbledon, and though we won’t be showing any men’s World Cup games, we will have the USWNT international games on - especially of note is the fundraiser happening during the US vs Brazil game this Saturday June 6, when we’ll host Madi and Kaitlin who are running the marathon and raising money for PAWS Chicago!

🌮🍔 We have more delish food coming to the bar this month, don’t miss Taylor’s Tacos on Wednesday the 3rd, Kitestring Taquitos on Wednesday the 17th, and Mom’s on July 1!
🛠️ This is the third time we’ve mentioned Tool School Co in this newsletter, and tbh we could mention them ten more times, that’s how obsessed we are. Juliana will be leading workshops every Tuesday this summer on the patio, and they’ve been filling up quickly so don’t sleep on signing up! Tool Schoolers learned how to patch drywall today - and will be tiling next week!
👟💕 We’ve loved hosting Out There Run and Walk Club on Wednesdays! They’ll be going on 1.5 and 3 mile runs starting at Babe’s every Wednesday at 6:30 this month, no experience necessary! Learn more here and RSVP for an upcoming run or walk.

One day we’ll get this calendar out before the month actually begins - maybe that’s our August goal hehe. Whether it’s coming for the Patio Party (June 20th!), joining Out There on a Wednesday run, or just popping by to drink a BFF beer on the Court Yard, we can’t wait to see you this month.
